What was for you the reason to register for the preliminaries for ICTalent 2017?

We wanted to get more attention for Quantified Student because we really think that Quantified Student can have a positive impact on the student’s life and performance. Using this attention can help us realize our vision which is: “By 2021 every student in Fontys will be using Quantified Student.”

How can you best describe your product? What can it do? What does it do?

Quantified Student really is a simple idea, if you look at apps like RunKeeper, research shows that apps like that enhance engagement and results. Also people think apps like that are fun. The essence of Runkeeper is that the behavior of the runner is tracked and communicated back to the runner in a dashboard.

The goal of Quantified Student is to see if you can reach the same positive effect if you had a dashboard for study behaviour for students. And if that is the case what should you measure, track and communicate? The essence is that we communicate the data we track back to the student. This enables the student to reflect on her/his own behaviour. We also encourage student to add context to the data himself.

The essence of the project is that it is created by students. We are creating education in the lab. What is possible? What is not? In the project we are currently researching which data is possible to obtain, we are currently looking in to 3 big data sources:

  • Study Analytics
  • Open Data
  • Biometric Data
     

What makes your product so unique?

There are a lot of papers written on the subject Quantified Student. These papers show that already a lot of research has been conducted on this topic, but these papers are all just theoretical and history shows that putting ideas into practice generates different results than expected. That’s basically what we are doing with Quantified Student.

Why should you win the ICTalent Awards 2017?

Because of the positive effect Quantified Student has on student’s life and performance. We really believe that Quantified Student can change how people look at education.

What, if you win the first prize of 2000 euro per person? How are you going to use the money to develop your product or your talents?

We want put the prize money to not only develop personally but also us as a team.

And… what do you want to tell your competition?

So… you lost to us, I guess you weren’t using Quantified Student. Because of this we offer you a free subscription to our services.
